Internet Service Questions
What is PowerBoost® and what will it do for me?
PowerBoost is a Comcast-patented feature that provides a burst of speed when large files are downloaded or uploaded. PowerBoost is one more way we believe Comcast Business Class Internet provides increased business productivity.
What is Wideband?
Comcast Business Class Internet is evolving from incredibly fast broadband service to even faster wideband service with the deployment of DOCSIS 3.0.
DOCSIS 3.0 (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specifications) sets a new standard for delivering high-speed Internet services across fiber-optic cable networks. It represents a quantum leap in Internet speed for small businesses and establishes a new platform for innovation in the years ahead.
With wideband, Comcast Business Class will introduce two new Internet tiers: “Premium” which features download/upload speeds of 22Mbps/5Mbps and our fastest tier, “Deluxe” which features speeds up to 50 Mbps/10Mbps. These speeds are beyond anything we have offered in the past.
The new wideband speeds will be rolled out across the country in stages, starting in October 2008 and running through 2009.
What Web hosting packages are available, and how do I order?

What is a domain pointer?
A domain pointer is a Web hosting feature that allows you to automatically send Web visitors from one or more of your domain names to your primary Web site. Domain pointers also give you the ability to point a domain to a subdirectory acting as a stand-alone Web site.
What is the difference between a static IP and a dynamic IP?
Generally, a static IP address will never change. In contrast, a dynamic IP has the potential to change at any given interval.
When would I want to use Static IP?
A Static IP will allow you to assign your own server or firewall with a public static-routable IP. For example, you could run an e-mail, Web, or VPN server.
How does the Comcast firewall compare with a PIX or Sonicwall?
The Comcast IP Gateway's firewall performs many similar functions to a PIX or Sonicwall.
The Comcast firewall offers:
- Stateful Packet Inspection
- Port Forwarding
- Port Blocking
- Port Triggering
- Keyword Blocking
If you choose to, you can also use your own PIX or Sonicwall with the Comcast IP Gateway.
What are Microsoft Communication Services from Comcast?
Comcast Business Class Internet with Microsoft Communication Services provide secure, reliable, multiple access options to e-mail, contact management, shared calendars and tasks, and online document sharing.
As Microsoft’s Exchange platform is hosted in the network, our small business owners and employees will enjoy “anywhere access” to their Microsoft applications, assuring maximum efficiency and productivity for their business.
Historically, this business productivity solution would be prohibitive for small to medium-sized businesses due to high costs and IT support. Comcast and Microsoft have come together to make these large enterprise IT solutions available to the small business.
