This is a multi-part series on Comcast Business and its work with Junior Achievement. For a look at the previous article, click here.

Since my last blog, students in the Comcast JA Company Program were hard at work preparing for the JA Company Program Regional Competition, where we faced off against other student-run companies in a series of interviews and presentations.

As part of this, our mentor team arranged for OneLove Company student officers to participate in a panel discussion where Comcast leaders and Malcolm Jenkins, the #27 safety for the Philadelphia Eagles, grilled the students about the business they created and the work they had done so they could hone their presentation in advance of the Competition. Malcolm is a staunch advocate for youth development and has done a lot of great work for the Philadelphia community through his organization, the Malcolm Jenkins Foundation. The students were thrilled to get his perspective!

We also worked on the final stages of liquidation for our OneLove Company and our inventory of fleece blankets. We brought 200 blankets to Project HOME, our charity of choice, to help keep Philly’s underserved population warm in the colder months. For those that have been following us, the students arranged to donate one blanket to every five blankets sold to the organization, and then any surplus inventory.

At the Regional Competition held April 21, our students were rewarded for their efforts. While we didn’t win the overall “Best Company,” Damani Okuri took home the award for Vice President of the Year, and Sameese Smith won Employee of the Year honors. Each student won a $1000 scholarship.

I am extremely proud of all of our students and mentors!
