Activating the closed caption feature depends on what kind of TV box and TV you have. Here are outlines of a few of the different setups to help point you in the right direction.
Turn closed captioning on or off:
Without a TV box
With a standard-definition TV box or a digital adapter
On a standard-definition TV with a high-definition (HD) TV box
On a high-definition (HD) TV with a high-definition (HD) TV box
With a CableCARD™ device (such as a TiVo)
You will use the closed captioning features built into your TV. It has nothing to do with your cable service. Refer to your TV’s user manual to enable or disable closed captioning.
You will need to use the closed captioning features built into your TV. With this setup, it's possible you may be unable to send and receive closed captioning.
You can use either the TV box or the TV to turn closed captioning on or off. If you accidentally turn closed captioning on in both, you will see a double layer of captions. To use your HD TV box perform the following steps:
Turn the TV box off and leave TV on.
Press Menu on the TV box or remote control.
Using the down arrow, navigate to Closed Captioning.
Press the right arrow to Enabled or Disabled.
Press Menu or Settings button on remote control once.
Scroll down to Caption/Off/On with Mute.
Press the left/right arrow to disable or enable.
You will need to use the TV box. Ensure closed captioning is turned off in your TV to avoid double layers of captions.
You will need to use the CableCARD device to turn closed captioning on or off. Refer to the retail device's user manual for enabling/disabling instructions.
