Blue Hills Bank Selects Comcast Business Ethernet to Support Company Expansion and Increase Efficiency
Ethernet Network Service and Ethernet Dedicated Internet Provides 100 Mbps to Support Blue Hills Bank.
BOSTON – June 19, 2013 – Comcast Business, a unit of Comcast Cable, the nation's largest video, high-speed Internet and phone provider to business and residential customers, today announced that Blue Hills Bank, a mutual community bank with assets of more than $1.2 billion and branches in Brookline, Dedham, Hyde Park, Norwood and West Roxbury, Mass., has selected Comcast Business Ethernet for high-performance data connectivity between its locations as well as high-speed Internet to support its online services and other technology initiatives.
Over the past two years, Blue Hills Bank has changed significantly, including launching a new name and brand identity, renovating branch locations, improving the look and functionality of its website, upgrading teller and customer service technology, and establishing a commercial lending division. This ambitious expansion initiative required investments in additional people, technology and products to serve the bank’s diverse customer base.
Previously, the bank’s patch management, security and data back-up relied on the network capacity from its T1 lines, which provided only1.5 Mbps of bandwidth each. After installing a fiber-based Ethernet network from Comcast, employees no longer had to wait for applications to load over the network or for software to run, which helped improve their speed and efficiency. In addition, the bank can now quickly identify and patch security issues, and has introduced a disk-based backup system at all branches for improved business continuity.
“The increased bandwidth from Comcast has enabled us to support a new commercial lending division and operations center, and we would have not been able to accomplish this without a faster network,” said Gary Hoffstein, vice president, technology officer at Blue Hills Bank. “Our employees are more efficient and productive now, and working with Comcast has been a great experience since the beginning of the implementation – they listened to our needs and found the right solution to help us meet our business goals.”
Comcast Ethernet Network Service (ENS) connects all of the bank’s branches and its new data operations center with 100 Mbps of bandwidth between each location to enable high-performance file transfer and data access. In addition, Comcast Ethernet Dedicated Internet provides a 100 Mbps connection to the Internet, which enables the use of cloud-based banking software and faster access to other online resources.
“Blue Hills Bank employees are dedicated to providing the best possible service to their customers, and with Comcast, they can do their jobs with support from a significant increase in network capacity,” said Steve Walsh, regional vice president, Comcast Business. “The bank now has an integrated, high-performance Ethernet network that allows its IT staff to easily back up data, implement new software, and transfer and access information to support its continuing company expansion and other strategic business initiatives.”
