Multi-Gigabit Ethernet Services Now Available to Local Businesses Who Need Scalable Bandwidth for Cloud Computing, Mobility, Online Backup and Other Technology Initiatives
Salt Lake City – December 11, 2014
– Comcast Business
today announced that its full portfolio of Ethernet services is now available to a number of new businesses along Salt Lake City’s growing business district along California Avenue. Through the expansion of Comcast’s Ethernet network, local businesses now have access to bandwidth of up to 10 Gigabits-per-second (Gbps) and services specifically designed to help companies of all sizes access fast, reliable Internet service, network multiple locations or connect their offices to an offsite data center.
California Avenue is home to a number of large industrial, manufacturing and trucking businesses that can benefit from the increased efficiency and reliability that fiber services can provide over the traditional copper-based infrastructure. With this expansion, businesses residing in the area will have access to four different types of Comcast Business Ethernet
- Ethernet Dedicated Internet – continuous, high-bandwidth connectivity between customers’ LANs and the public Internet.
- Ethernet Network Service – multipoint-to-multipoint connectivity to connect organizations with high-bandwidth requirements and multiple locations across Comcast’s network.
- Ethernet Private Line – point-to-point connectivity between two customer sites for bandwidth-intensive applications.
- Ethernet Virtual Private Line – a point-to-multipoint connection that allows customers to tailor bandwidth, performance characteristics and cost to meet the needs of their applications.
“The expansion of our network into new areas of Salt Lake City illustrates our continued commitment to bringing reliable, high-capacity network connectivity to businesses focused on growing and staying competitive as technology plays a bigger role in their success,” said Paul Merritt, director for Comcast Business. “Every business has unique needs that must be met in order to achieve success in their industry. With access to more options for connectivity, local businesses are better positioned to choose the services that best fit their situation.”
“When moving offices or choosing a location to establish a new business, companies are cognizant of the infrastructure options available including broadband,” said Lane Beattie, president & CEO, Salt Lake Chamber. “In the past, this was typically limited to standard utilities and easy access to transportation, but in today’s hyper-connected business climate, technology is just as critical, if not more important. With Comcast Business providing additional options, we’re better able to attract a diverse range of companies that have a clear idea of how they want to do business and require the right technology infrastructure to make it a reality.”
All of Comcast’s Ethernet services are delivered over an advanced network that spans 140,000 miles across 39 states and the District of Columbia. Serving 20 of the top 25 U.S. markets, Comcast’s network features a 100 Gbps backbone and expanded local footprint through Ethernet over HFC. Bandwidth is available up to 10 Gbps and can be scaled in increments and offered in three different classes of service, backed by strict service level agreements and monitored 24x7x365 from Comcast’s dedicated Network Operations Centers. Comcast was the first service provider in the world to offer Metro Ethernet Forum CE 2.0 certified Ethernet services and was also the first service provider to achieve all three of the previous CE 1.0 certifications (MEF 9, 14 and 18).
Comcast Business recently received four Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) Ethernet Excellence Awards
, including the prestigious Best Service of the Year for North America. In addition, Comcast Business moved up two spots to the number six position and is now the second largest cable MSO in terms of Ethernet services in the Mid-Year 2014 U.S. Carrier Ethernet LEADERBOARD
from Vertical Systems Group.
