Comcast Business to Bring 10 Gigabit Internet Service to Huntsville
Multi-million dollar investment designed to support local business community and attract new organizations requiring ultra-fast speeds
Huntsville, AL – January 11, 2016 - Comcast Business today announced it will build a multi-million dollar fiber optic network across greater Huntsville capable of delivering up to 10 gigabit speeds to local businesses. The fiber-based Ethernet network will provide businesses and government organizations with highly scalable and ultra-fast Internet connectivity and cloud-based voice solutions.
“As Huntsville continues to grow and develop a vibrant, high-tech community, Comcast recognized the need to make this important technology investment,” said Doug Guthrie, regional SVP for Comcast. “This effort will enable businesses to expand their operations, and reinforces Huntsville as a destination of choice for organizations requiring the most advanced technology available.”
Huntsville's economy is heavily derived from the aerospace, telecommunications and military technology sectors. The city benefits from the presence of the University of Alabama in Huntsville, which is a center for technology and engineering research in the area. The city is also headquarters to NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. Home to several Fortune 500 companies, Huntsville also offers a broad base of manufacturing, retail and service industries.
“Comcast’s announcement is the latest in a series of wins for Huntsville’s residents and businesses to receive high speed internet,” said Mayor Tommy Battle. “We thank Comcast for making this significant investment in the city of Huntsville and for their belief in our high-growth market.”
“Huntsville is proud to play host to some of the world’s most high-tech organizations,” said Alabama Rep. Howard Sanderford. “Soon, Huntsville will enjoy all of the advantages of having the fastest internet speeds and most cutting-edge technologies in the state – all designed to support our robust economy.”
