Small-Business WiFi: It’s Not Just for Retail

December 09, 2016

If your small business isn’t taking advantage of having on-site WiFi yet, it’s time to reconsider.

“But I don’t own a retail business,” you might be saying. “Why do I need WiFi?”

While it’s true that WiFi — especially free WiFi — encourages retail customers to linger longer and buy more while patronizing restaurants, bars and shops, it also offers benefits to other types of small businesses:

  • Professional Services: Doctors, dentists, accountants, lawyers and other professional service providers can use WiFi to keep clients and other guests informed, entertained and connected while waiting for service or a meeting.
  • Real Estate Brokers: Home buyers and sellers alike increasingly turn to Internet-based real estate sites to find a new home or sell an existing one. Providing free business WiFi in your office lets you be an integral part of your clients’ search and decision-making process.
  • Clubs and Houses of Worship: You may not have customers, but you do have members. Why not give them an amenity they really want during meetings and other gatherings?
  • Service Stations: Eliminate the costs associated with loaner vehicles by giving customers a reason to stick around during service. With free WiFi, they can check email, do work and surf the Internet, making their wait more productive and entertaining.
  • Home-Based Businesses: If you operate your business from home, WiFi can benefit your business by separating your home and business WiFi bandwidth, so business bandwidth is always optimized. You can also set content filtering and uptime parameters to keep the kids (and neighbors) from accessing inappropriate Internet content.

Remember: just about everyone nowadays carries a smart phone or other mobile device with them when they are away from home. With business WiFi, your small business can better engage your customers and clients, no matter what type of business you own.

If your small business isn’t taking advantage of having on-site WiFi yet, it’s time to reconsider.
